About Woodstock, Strasburg, Shenandoah Valley, and the Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia Area.

My Woodstock Office

Once upon a time …

...There was a place called Woodstock, perched in the middle of Virginia's gracious Shenandoah Valley.

People strolling the amiable downtown area centered on the eighteenth century stone courthouse were smiling and saying, "Hello", to their neighbors, those they knew by name and those they had yet to meet.

Parking curbside, they might drop in on a bistro, an art gallery, a design studio or an antique store. Visiting grocer, gas station, department store or hardware store would need only a five-minute jaunt. Stoplights? Oh, there were a few.

Weekends brimmed with festivals, carnivals, art shows, street dances and parades. Choirs gave concerts, theater productions were mounted by local thespians, and musicians of countless flavors performed on stages and in eateries.

The mountains rising above the town’s rooftops were rich with pleasures of hiking, hunting and skiing. The seven deep bends of the ancient North Fork of the Shenandoah River twisting along the town’s edge welcomed fishermen, campers and boaters. Nearby farms were speckled with sheep, poultry, cattle and lush crops.

Here where America’s founding father George Washington surveyed land, where Confederate hero Stonewall Jackson led his troops with courage and valor, where the first Civilian Conservation Corps boys fought off the Great Depression, farms and towns thrived for centuries.

And life was good there, once upon a time.

Once upon a time was – just yesterday. And it’s that way in Woodstock today, too. Come see for yourself.

Woodstock's Distinctive New Water Tower

Woodstock, VA is the county seat of Shenandoah County situated on the West Virginia border and about midway between Winchester, VA and Harrisonburg, VA on Interstate 81. It has mountains on both eastern and western borders, the Massanutten Mountains on the east and the Alleghenies on the west. Other major Shenandoah County towns are: Strasburg; Toms Brook; Maurertown; Edinburg; Mt. Jackson; New Market; Basye and; the Fort Valley area and Bryce Mountain Resort.

North of Shenandoah County is Frederick County, the northernmost county in Virginia. Its seat is the City of Winchester and other main towns include: Stephen's City; Middletown; Clear Brook; Gore and; Cross Junction.

To the south of Shenandoah is Rockingham County and the City of Harrisonburg. Major towns are Timberville; Broadway; Lacey Springs; Singers Glen; Dayton; Bridgewater; Mt. Crawford; Elkton; McGaheysville and; the Massanutten Resort.

From north to south the three counties: Frederick; Shenandoah and; Rockingham, form Virginia's northern and western border with West Virginia. This border runs along the eastern portion of the Allegheny Mountains.

To the east of these three, another tier of three counties, from north to south: Clarke; Warren and; Page County, form the eastern portion of the northern Shenandoah Valley. These counties are bordererd to the east by the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Massanutten Mountains divide this portion of the Shenandoah in half.

Financing Your Home >Lenders Want to Say Yes

If you wish to buy a home but consider yourself incapable of getting credit, you may be living in the past in terms of assessing your financial situation. Lenders have become more flexible in underwriting mortgage loans.

A recent survey of mortgage lenders revealed some interesting trends. Ninety-six percent of those surveyed had cut their standard down payment requirements for moderate-income buyers, and 93% said they are more lenient regarding debt-to-income-ratios. Ninety-four percent of those surveyed said they now have more flexible approaches to credit histories, and look at rent and utility payments more than credit cards. Seventy-nine percent of lenders say they have relaxed employment criteria. They now look more at your capacity to generate a stable flow of income rather than requiring a long history at one job.

There are more lenders today, and they are in fierce competition with each other. The home loan industry has created entire markets that cater to those with less-than-perfect credit.
